The Major General Maurice Rose Monument
In May 2021, the Colorado House of Representatives passed a resolution to construct a sculpture of General Rose on state capitol grounds.
The bronze monument, designed by renowned sculptor George W. Lundeen, depicts the general gallantly motioning to his troops. His stance speaks to the leadership and poise of General Rose under pressure.
General Rose’s commanding statue will remind millions of visitors of his lifetime of service and pay homage to all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation.
Major General Maurice Rose
Killed in action during World War II,
General Rose is among the great leaders of America’s military past.
Throughout his lifetime of service, General Rose was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and six others.
He completed an impressive number of firsts during his service: – Negotiation of the first major surrender of Axis forcers – First to capture a major German city – First officer of any army to lead a ground invasion of Germany since Napoleon
The General Maurice Rose Monument will accomplish another first: it will be the first in Colorado to honor a Jewish citizen.
